Their has been no set patterns, but Buzzers, Diawl Bachs, Bloodworm and Hoppers have taken fish in good numbers. Also doing well are Dancers,Damsels, Poppers, and Various Fritz patterns. Butterstone Loch

The loch continues to fish well with the majority of anglers now resorting to floating lines with nymphs and buzzers. The remaining few who are still using slow intermediates continue to be successful with a good starting point being a Cormorant and a couple of Buzzers or Diawl Bach’s on the droppers. The water temperature is now up to the usual May temperatures at 13.5 ‘C and water clarity is around normal 1.25m for this time of year. Oxygen levels are good with the rain and cool weather we have had over the past month. Evening sessions have now started and there are some great rises to be had on the warmer evenings.

Over the past week fishing has gone back to normal early season drifts with the majority of fish being taken in the margins from just outside the harbour up past the road shore and the reeds to the lilies. The average size of fish is now around the three lbs mark with plenty of fish in the 4-5 lbs class being weighed in.

Those featuring amongst the best baskets last week included Messrs. Eadie and Campbell who took their usual Tuesday slot and had another great day on floating lines with small nymphs and their trusty Green & Black Buzzers - they returned 20 between them. I Yuill weighed in 6 for 18lbs 2oz including a lovely Rainbow of 4lb 4oz, D Kerr also weighed in 6 for 16lb 8oz, Stanley Ghillie Dave Barwick managed to scrape 6 for 13lb 12oz and Messrs. Glensherup Fisheries

Saturday, 11th, March, 2006, saw the first Club outing of the season. Rainbow A/C from Glenrothes had seven boats out on a lovely day, they managed to catch 31 fish for a combined weight of 59 lbs. Some of the team caught their limit and returned around twenty fish. Despite the cold water the fish were not very deep and were taking mostly lures, black and green fritz, orange blob. Some anglers who had their limit also had great sport on small buzzers.

Saturday, 25th March, Newmarket A/C from Edinburgh, had six boats out and caught 22 fish with a combined weight of 44 lbs. Best fish of the day was a 5lb overwintered rainbow. Once again the fish are showing on the surface, but the recent heavy rain has slightly coloured the water but doesn't seem to be bothering the fish.

Saturday, 8th, April, Seafield A/C had six boats out and returned with 33 fish for a weight of 59lbs. Sunday, 9th, April, Moniefieth A/C had nine boats out and caught 42 fish with a weight of 75 lbs. Willie Meldrum one of Moniefieths members thought he had scored when hooked a monster only to discover at the net he had foul hooked a 15lb plus Pike, the Pike had previously been hooked as it had a lot of nylon round it. Willie thought before returning the fish he would cut of the old nylon. Whilst in the boat the Pike swung round a bit Willies hand causing several nasty puncture wounds.
There's gratitude for you. Most of the fish are being caught at the Burn end of the Loch on various lures, favourites are Dawsons Olive, yellow dancer.

AlexanderFFC had10 boats out last week and had47 fish for a weight of 85lbs. Curly Wilson (Cowdenbeath) had 6 fish for 12lbs. Neil McInnes (Glasgow) and his father had 10 fish for 21lbs. Cowdenbeath A/C had 10 boats out and caught a total of 39 fish for 82lbs. The water clarity has improved greatly and buzzers are the main killing fly, flexi floss with red/orange cheeks. On the lure side its mainly the hot head Damsel and Orange fritz.

This week saw Kinglassie A/C out with 4 boats they had 22 fish for 39lbs. Stanley A/C had 6 boats out and caught 31 fish for 52 lbs. Colin Smith and his boat partner caught 7 fish for 12lbs. With the weather warming up a bit there have been some good hatches of buzzers. Again the best catches have been comming at the Burn end of the Loch.

Over the past few days the weather has not been the best, but, the last two weeks saw 53 rods out in total and they caught 110 fish weighing 205lbs. Most fish have been caught on Ace of Spades, Yellow Dancer, black and green Fritz.

Once again the last two weeks have been quiet due to the World Cup. Around 50 rods have been out the past two weeks and the best fish caught so far was a fine 6 pounder. The average weight is still around the 2 lb mark, the fish are high in the water despite the sun and are taking Hoppers etc.

Whats this? TOP GEAR AT GLENSHERUP. Last week it was dead when all of a sudden a group of blokes arrived, did they want fishing, no. It was Jeremy Clarkson and a film crew wanting to use the Loch as a backdrop for an episode of Top Gear to be shown in the Autumn. So a rather boring day turned into an interesting one. So we hope that now the World Cup is nearly over the couch potatoes will get the rods out.

Apologies for the lack of updates, this was due my PC failing to work properly. During the rest of the ummer due to the excessive rise in water temp. the fish went down deep some over 50 feet making conditions to say the least difficult.
Mid September saw the water temp come back to normal and the fish came up. Several rods managed their bag limits up to the end of October. All in all a good season for sun bathing......not for fishing.

NEW SEASON

April, started off well compared to last year, some of the club returns are as follows....Newmarket A/C from Edinburgh had 5 boats and took 35 fish for a weight of 65lbs. Edinburgh City Fly Fishers 5 boats and took 36 fish for 63 lbs. Moniefieth A/C had 7 boats and took 40 fish for a weight of 71lbs Dunfermline Artisans had 7 boats and took 38 fish for 66lbs. Seafield A/C had 6 boats and took 40 fish for 73lbs. Thats the club returns up to date.

Best areas at the moment are long drift down far bank fishing close in to the Margins, intermediate lines are the preferred method at the moment. Some excellent overwintered fish have been caught near the Burn mouth at the top end of the loch. Best flies are Cats Whisker, Damsel Nymph, yellow dancers.

Morayflyfishing and Glen of Rothes Trout Fishery

January 8, 2006
Some found it tough this week and some had good numbers of fish mainly due to temperatures dropping very quickly, sending fish down to the bottom, where intermediate lines and sinking lines were needed to get to them.Lures were the main fly and buzzers di show now and again but nothing like they have done in past weeks.Zander Christie had 11 fish,Brian Christie Jnr had 15 and 12 fish,Andy Taylor had 11 ,D Leech had 17,Ewen MacDonald had 15,Duncan McKenzie had 12,Stuart Hayden had 18,Mark Cormack 11 John McKenzie 10 and Jim Boyle had 10 fish.Main loch is open with plenty of water for fishing and the small loch was opening but hard frost saw it ice again.Temperatures this week will dictate how well it opens but the main loch will remain open all the time.
march 13th 2007
Fishing has been excellent over the past few weeks with top class quality fish being caught. Many of them Blues and all over the 4lb mark upto 7lbs.other good fish into double fugures have been caught aswell and are fighting hard. Now there is warmer weather fish are quite high in the water and it wont be long before they are taking off the top and its only wind which is keeping them just below the surface and buzzers slowly retrieved are producing exciting sport which anglers are enjoying. Some days when the weather is not so kind lures are needed but dont fish too deep as you will go way past them.new disabled platforms are now up and we are looking forward to a good years fishing.Competition dates are up and booking early is advised.
